DJ asked:

Help – I need some ideas, I have some ideas already from people I’ve asked but it doesn’t hurt to get more ideas from all of you. I have one week to get something.. price range $100 – $200 CDN. I’ve asked the hosts what they have already, and it seems they have everything they need.

No toasters. lol..

Thanks for any answers in advance.

Get them a gift card. Pier One is always nice. Or Bed Bath and Beyond. This way they can buy something they really want.

Gift card for a home and garden center is the easiest. While not quite so personal, it does give the homeowners the ability to fix/add what they need or want at a later date.

or a set of bar towels with a favorite team logo for him and a set of the same towels with their home decor theme for her

Gift card from Lowes or Home Depot. They will probably find a need for home or landscaping, even if it is a new house.

Get them some really nice wine or champagne with which to celebrate. Or something really regional – we got a fondue pot for our housewarming from friends in Switzerland.

Well if they are having a housewarming party then they obviously OWN some land….

A tree to plant is a fabulous idea! For the price you want to spend you could get a few trees !!

How about a wheelbarrel full of things needed around this house such as, garden hoses, twine, misc. tools, sprinklers, flower pots, etc….

How about a flag pole with a flag of their country, state or of some other logo that you know they enjoy, such as John Deere, Harley Davidson, Chevy, etc….

How abaout a custom / fancy painted or decorative mailbox. This idea is endless for the varieties!

Look to what they will need outside the home for so many rarely do. Your gift will end up being the most unique !! Be sure to put a big bow on it, what ever it is !!! : )

If they have a house (not a condo or apartment) with an outdoor deck or pool or something, you know what I love? Those chimineas or copper fire pits for starting a campfire. It keeps it neat and clean and contained with all the fun of having a campfire outside on the patio or deck on cool evenings.

You are offering a generous gift. I think the best housewarming gift is either cash or a gift card to a home improvement retailer like Home Depot. People moving into a new home end up spending money on things to fix up and improve their home almost from the start. Your gift of cash or a gift certificate will be much appreciated.

    Good luck with your decision.

I like the idea of a gift certificate to a home warehouse. ( Lowe’s or Home Depot) If they need landscaping, a certificate to a local Nursery/Garden store.
