What are some ideas to boost the morale of employees in a retail work environment?

ideas
Kristen H asked:

I am a Supervisor at a large chain retail store, but the store itself has only about 30 total employees. Our Store Manager was recently promoted and we have a new Manager who is a bit more strict than the last and morale is quite low, especially among the cashiers who we depend on greatly. Any ideas to boost morale would be greatly appreciated. I am to give my Store Manager my ideas by Thursday Oct. 19th so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

  1. staff socials, empoyee of the month

  2. Offer rewards and incentives for performing “x” (for example, gift cards or bonus money). Have a monthly pizza party for your employees. Get mystery shoppers in the store, and give employees a reward of some type for a successful mystery shop. Let them know they are valued and that the company cares about them.

  3. Recognition Recognition Recognition. Not just awards and bonuses but an occasional pat on the back face to face. The common courtesy that you would afford to an important client. Speaking with them on their level and not browbeating and condescending to them. Amazing results come from affording someone the basic dignity that every human has a right to expect from others. Gives you the opportunity to give a little extra to the ones that are doing a particularly good job too. An occasional bonus, or well done cookout is a nice touch but doesn’t even come close to the day to day recognition that one gets from just being spoken to in a dignified way.

  4. start a incentive program with bonus guanteeed
the new manager takes all the employees to lunch..start with the longest employed with store first and go down the list…tell him/her to be more friendly and the workers might be more relaxed around him/her………..
