Any Day Now asked:
I am going back to work tomorrow and I am worried about pumping. Does anyone have any tips on how to get the pumping done faster? Did you wear a special bra or did you have to go and take your shirt off just to pump? How did you pump while at work? Thanks, appreciate any tips!

I went into a private bathroom.
I talked to my boss about it, and explained that this was something i was determined to do and needed support, because if you boss or co-workers don’t support you… it is tough.
I wore a nursing bra while pumping.. easier to get in and out. I would feed the baby at 5 am, leave for work at 6am, pump at 10am. I was FULL by that time. Then i would pump again at 1:30/ 2pm. By the time I got home from work 4ish.. the baby was ready to eat and I was ready to feed. I also informed my daycare person that when I got home.. i would be ready to feed.. so to try to hold off on feeding the baby if at all possible.
You really can’t pump faster.. you need to relax.. and not be stressing. The first couple days of pumping at work will be odd, but if you can make it comfortable… and maybe in a private room or bathroom.. it will be easier.
Good Luck!!! I know tomorrow is a hard day for you! You will make it!!!
I was lucky. I work in a hospital and in the NCCU there was a nursing rooom, complete with a rocking chair, nice and quiet.
I would see if you can find a nice quiet room to yourself with no possibility of interruption.
I also wore a nuring bra.
Bring a photo of your baby to make you smile and relax while you pump.
I use a conference room in the office building I work at. I have it reserved for 20 minutes twice a day, but it’s usually always empty in case I can’t go pump at that exact time. I wear a regular bra, and just pull up my shirt and bra to pump. I am noticing that my bras are taking a beating because of this, but nursing bras really don’t offer the support I need!
The best advice I can give-Get an insulated bag (a children’s lunch bag would work) and cold packs so you can store the milk at your desk or where ever you are storing your pump. This way you can make sure it’s cold and it saves time.
I am a teacher and I’m in my own portable buliding outside the school so I could just lock my door. I was still very nervous though. People would knock or the phone would ring and I could get up to get it.
My tip is to be up front about it.
If you don’t have a secluded room let people know you are going to be pumping and they will hopefully give you the privacy you need. Also, stay focused. You are doing what is best for your baby and always keep that in mind. At times it will be hard but if you stay positive and determined you will be able to pump for as long as you like. Good Luck!
