How to Make a Topsy Turvy cake

This is a longer video of how I constructed my Valentine’s cake with instructions included. A little more information is posted on my blog. Unfortunately, I’ve had to take my recipes down so I apologize for not being able to help in that area. I recommend a sturdy cake recipe for this style of cake similar to a pound cake. janellscakes.blogspot.com janellscakes.com

First off….amazing! You make it look so easy. Alot of people (like me) are visual learners and this is so helpful. I am making a cake for this Friday, it’s a “The Nightmare Before Christmas” themed cake and a TT cake would go so well with the theme. I’m not sure if I should try to do a TT since it would be my first time. I have been decorating cakes for almost a year now (I’m on Facebook if you want to check out my work) My question… would red velvet cake work with a TT cake? Thanks so much!

Could you one day make a video of a smaller version of those cakes. because for a small birthday party, that cake would be way too much. It would be really nice of you and thank you for your videos, your the best

hey there, i am super interested in making a topsy turvy cake…i think its an awesome looking cake and the way you presented it is incredible. I wanted to know if it was possible if you could type out how to make it and send it to me? I’d be greatly appreciated…also how do you freeze the cake? like wrapping wise? and for how long? and then how long do you do it when the fondant is on?

WOW! I had to watch this video again because it is amazing how you make these cakes. You make the process seem so easy, I am attempting to do something similar like this for my sisters birthday so I am trying to get all the examples I can get. Thanks for posting your amazing work, I really appreciate it! :)

  20. haman89bla on July 24, 2010 at 3:23 am

who did you make this for???? cuz this is awesome!!

  21. hotdogcore on July 24, 2010 at 4:07 am

This is excellent work. It looks lovely.
I’m doing a topsy turvey cake for my final project in my wedding cakes class, and I did not even think to put the part you cut off from the top of the tier on the other side to make it more of an angle. Although mine is at a pretty decent angle already.
We have lots of extra cake left over, and I haven’t put fondant on yet, so I think I can still steal some cake from someone’s trimmings and make an even steeper angle.
