What are some tips to avoiding passing out once the feeling has taken over?

tips
CollegeMeg asked:

There have been a couple times where I have started feeling like I’m going to pass out. I was trying to find some tips for once I already am on my way to passing out that will help me avoid blacking out. I’ve always been told to breathe in my nose, out my mouth – get somewhere cool – try to keep talking.
I have found that if I focus on something and fight to think very hard about it I am able to remain conscious.

I haven’t been able to find any other tips that could help in that situation. If anyone knows any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
The 2 times in the past year (appx.) when I have almost passed out was when I got my first tattoo and earlier this evening when I watched Touristas (I know I’m lame) something about seeing someone’s insides like that just does me in I guess.

  1. Pass the bong to the next freak.

The old head between the legs trick is the first remedy. A drink of water or milk helps..

  2. i have been told AT THE Doctor’s office to sit down, lean over – lower my head.

But i disagree – if i am really close to fainting, that means that my head is going to hit the floor. I would rather just fall down than hit my head.

a cold compress on the back of the neck helps me.
but if i start to see little black dots everywhere, i sit down, preferably on the floor, fast.

  3. I think what is more important is WHY you are passing out!

Once you figure that out, you won’t need to worry about keeping yourself from doing so.

However- sitting down and putting your head between your knees is an age-old remedy for light-headedness. Breath in and out slowly, if you can put a cool towel on the back of your neck that is good too. If you can, lay down and elevate your feet.

  4. ive had this prob and it was always in church or in school… i was told i was hypoglycemic..plus i have anxiety probs, you can put your head down between your knees, this helped me. also i had to start having a piece of hard candy to bring my blood sugar up. if you havent seen a doctor, you really should. fainting can also be a sign of more serious illness.

  5. if this is a repeat episod, you should see a neurologist

  6. put your head between your knees, it gets the blood back up to your head…
lay down and close your eyes…or sit down and have something cool to drink.

You need to see a Dr…passing out for no reason is bad.

  7. … it helps if you sit down somewhere… and focusing your thoughts on something also helps. I also always carry something sweet with me, and I find that eating that can help if I feel like I’m about to pass out. But if that happens often to you, you might want to check with a doctor, there could be something seriously wrong.
    hope it helps!

  8. HeHe HE sorry–i think you answered your own-question–we all also pass out–most everyday–now if u said u -passed out 2 times last year–we could mayby help–hmmm–dont get tatooes–maybe–lol-=-hreheheheh

  9. i think that keeping a horrizontal line of u’r body will help

Passing out occurs when u’r brain lacks oxigen due to insufficient oxigenised blood supplied by the carothides…so lowering u’r head or getting u’r feet at u’r head’s level(by laying down let’s say) wil provide the needed bloodstreem to u’r brain

hope u find a good answer to solve this

    take care

  10. Sit down and put your head between your knees. More oxygenated blood will go to your head and should help you feel better.

But if you pass out that easily, you may have some other condition that needs attention. Check with your dr., you could have low blood pressure. Are you drinking enough water and eating properly?

    Best wishes.

  11. If you feel you will pass out or faint
    you will experience weakness,
things turned black prior to fainting
    sweating

    If someone is there
    they will break your fall
    help you to the ground
use a tepid sponging to your forehead
and on the back of the neck.
    elevate the feet,
    when they regain consciousness
    they will need reassurance
    and gently help them up.

As for how you are to breathe
when you faint this is a temporary loss of consciousness
    last a few minutes

    If your fainting is serious
you should be checked over by a doctor.

  12. sit down and put ur head down in between ur legs to get blood to ur head. put a cold papertowl on ur head and slowly drink cold water. relax and take nice deep breaths. if u can, get a fan and put it right near u. the in nose out mouth breathing is really just to make u concentrate on somehting other then the fact that u may pass out

  13. Lay down and put your feet up. My daughter gets this when ever she sees her own blood from a cut. By propping her feet up helps the blood to come back to her brain and she will feel better.

  14. immediately put your head between your knees and breath slowly, in through the nose and out through the mouth. Make sure that you are in a safe position, just in case you do go all the way “out”

  15. It is very difficult to fight all those chemicals that release into your system when you are faced with something frightening. What happens is that your circulation changes to the point your brain doesn’t get enough oxygen. One thing you can do is to get your brain lower than your heart. Bend over.

One other thing that has been suggested is to raise your arms. This might sound strange, but if you put your arms above your head while standing up, it increases the amount of blood available to the rest of your body.

I have a problem with near-fainting a few seconds after I stand up. The bend-over trick nearly always works. The arm-raising trick has worked once or twice, but sometimes I don’t have enough strength left to do it.

These apply in situations where there is no place to sit down. If there is a place to sit, sit. No sense in risking injury from falling if there is a chair nearby. And put your head between your knees.

  16. I see that the main reason for your condition is the lack of oxygen which happens when you are stressed.
So, don’t forget to take deep breath for many times, when you watch scary movies, or when you are in tensed situations.
Some people hold their breaths in difficult situations, which deprives the brain from Oxygen, and they would feel the consequences even after 24 to 30 hours.
I feel it when I hold my breath: Two times I held my breath when I felt a bad smell in my environment, until the smell was gone. The next mornings, when I wanted to get up, I felt like fainting and the ceiling was turning above my head. I thought I was dying.
