What are some ideas of last-minute things you could put in a vase for a formal dinner?

It is for WInter Formal for our school. The vase would be the centerpiece for the table. Last year, they put sparkly sticks which looked beautiful, but this year we ran out of time and sticks don’t work. Any ideas? Also, any ideas for a pretty centerpiece for a formal table-setting would work.

Small ball ornaments (Will be on sale now!) Poinsettias, artificial snowfalkes, fill partway with water and float fresh cranberries on top…

I guess if you had the time you could go to a nearby gardening store and get a bag of those pretty rocks? They come in all different colors and you can get them sparkly or shiny. They’re pretty cheap too. Just fill a small vase with those with a tealight candle on top and it gives off a very warm feeling.
If the vases are fatter and shorter you could fill them with water and then place floaty candles in all of them too. That would add a nice touch.
I guess it’s really all up to your imagination :)

You didn’t mention if the event has a theme, but as long as the item coordinates and isn’t hokey, that works. For instance, you could do baby/child pictures of the guests. A special xerox of an event that means something – I would make a collage. Use silver Christmas-sy adornments.

A cute one i saw – if the vase is clear: put clean water small gold fish and some sort of flowers (only a few) that has long clean (thorn free, root free, and leaf free) stem. Its is very pretty and relaxing and unique to watch the fish swim aroundth bottom of a few pretty flowers inthe center of a table. there can be a leaf or two at the top – jsut not in the water
