   Decorative moulding and fabric believe me look so elegant ot modern depends on what your flavor is go to
   HGTV and look at some of the shows , good ones are Design on a dime or Decorating Cents they are all good .

   what color are the walls in the room? glossy white goes with anything an enamel paint should do the trick or for a more elegant look a dark stain or black enamel paint mixed with linseed oil and mineral spirits(1 part each)

   Don’t know what the furniture looks like now, but I like the color “Crabby Apple” by Sherwin Williams, and then you could a stencil in a light color, like “roman column.”
